Albert Uderzo, 1927 geboren, wurde 1941 Hilfszeichner in einem Pariser Verlag. 1945 half er zum ersten Mal bei der Herstellung eines Trickfilms, ein Jahr später zeichnete er seine ersten Comic-strips, wurde Drehbuchverfasser und machte bald auch in sich abgeschlossene Zeichenserien. In dieser Zeit entstanden u.a. "Belloy, Ritter ohne Rüstung" (für die Zeitschrift OK) und "Verbrechen lohnt sich nicht" (für die Zeitung France-Soir). Uderzo wurde Mitarbeiter einer belgischen Agentur in Paris, wo er 1951 Jean-Michel Charlier und Rene Goscinny kennenlernte. Mit Charlier machte Uderzo "Belloy", "Tanguy" und "Laverdure" und mit Goscinny entstanden zunächst u. a. "Pitt Pistol" und "Der unglaubliche Korsar", dann folgten "Luc Junior" (für La Libre Belgique), "Benjamin und Benjamine" (für "Top Magazin") und "Umpah-Pah" (für "Tintin"). 1959 gründeten Uderzo und Goscinny ihre eigene Zeitschrift, die sich "Pilot" nannte. Als Krönung entstand dann "Asterix der Gallier". Albert Uderzo erhielt im Juni 2004 den Max-und-Moritz-Preis des Comic-Salons Erlangen für sein herausragendes Lebenswerk.
