Indexicality and Idealism; Indexikalität und Idealismus
"I am here now" is a sentence whose objective truth
depends on the subjective space/time position of the talking
person. This being a basic, simple fact about the phenomenon of
indexicality does not make uncovering the logical and cognitive
preconditions of the use of indexicals an easy task. The twofold
aim of Indexicality and Idealism I and II is a scrutinising of (1)
How far among the texts of German idealism and transcendental
philosophy we find positive contributions to modern discussions of
indexicality; (2) How far today's more analytic works may
contribute to sorting out what is of real value from within the
same tradition of thought. Contained in the present volume are
comments on central texts of Kant and Hegel, on orientation in
space and time, on the irreducibility of indexical thought and
consciousness, as well as critical evaluations of Peirce,
Wittgenstein, Davidson and Brandom.
